BRMI STRENGTHENS HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING ON PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT AND TRAUMA HEALING
Brotherly Relief Mission Initiative (BRMI) successfully conducted a one-day Capacity Building Training on Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Trauma Healing for its staff and volunteers in Benue State, Nigeria, on 11 March 2026.
The training was designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills in understanding trauma, recognizing its impact on individuals and communities, and delivering appropriate psychosocial support in humanitarian and community settings.
Key areas covered included:
– Understanding trauma and its underlying causes
– Identifying signs and symptoms of trauma
– Delivering effective psychosocial support services
– Applying community-based approaches to trauma healing and recovery
– Promoting self-care and staff well-being while supporting vulnerable populations
Participants were also introduced to the Trauma LENS approach (Look, Explore, Needs, Support), a practical framework that equips frontline workers with structured techniques for identifying needs, responding appropriately, and strengthening community resilience.
Through this initiative, BRMI continues to invest in building the capacity of humanitarian workers and volunteers to provide quality psychosocial support, foster trauma-informed communities, and enhance the resilience and well-being of vulnerable populations across Nigeria.
EQUIPPING CHANGE MAKERS: BRMI ENHANCES CAPACITY FOR COMMUNITY DIALOGUE AND ADVOCACY
Brotherly Relief Mission Initiative (BRMI) participated in a 2-Day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Capacity Development for Facilitators, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) held on 10–11 February 2026, organized by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) with support from Tetra Tech International Development.
At BRMI, we believe that building stronger communities begins with strengthening the knowledge and skills of those who serve them. As an organization committed to the continuous capacity development of community-based organizations, youth, women, volunteers, frontline workers, and other development practitioners, we continually invest in learning to enhance the quality and impact of our interventions.
The training strengthened our capacity in:
- Dialogue facilitation and conflict-sensitive communication
- Community engagement and participatory approaches
- Advocacy strategy development and stakeholder mapping
- Designing inclusive dialogue platforms that promote trust, collaboration, and peaceful coexistence
- Developing evidence-based advocacy messages and effective follow-up strategies
These new skills will further strengthen BRMI’s ability to facilitate inclusive community dialogues, promote civic participation, support peaceful conflict resolution, and empower local actors to address development challenges effectively.

CHAMPIONING DISABILITY INCLUSION: BRMI COMMEMORATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
Brotherly Relief Mission Initiative (BRMI) celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
At BRMI, we believe that persons with disabilities are not defined by their limitations but by their abilities, talents, and potential. We proudly stand with all differently abled persons in advocating for a society where everyone has equal opportunities to participate, contribute, and thrive.
As an organization committed to humanitarian action, social inclusion, and sustainable development, promoting the rights, dignity, and empowerment of persons with disabilities remains one of our core priorities. We are dedicated to supporting their meaningful participation in leadership, decision-making, employment, education, and governance, while advocating for policies that remove barriers to inclusion.
We commend the Benue State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for commemorating the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities and for the passage of the Benue State Disability Rights Law (2025). This landmark legislation demonstrates a commitment to protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of persons with disabilities across the state.
BRMI calls on government at all levels, development partners, civil society organizations, and the private sector to make disability inclusion a priority by ensuring that persons with disabilities are represented in leadership, policy formulation, employment, education, healthcare, and all aspects of public life.
Together, we can build a Benue where every person—regardless of ability—is respected, included, empowered, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

BRMI Marks International Women’s Day 2026 in Benue State
Brotherly Relief Mission Initiative (BRMI), a women- and youth-led organization, proudly participated in the 2026 International Women’s Day opening rally in Benue State, organized by the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations.
Under the theme “Give to Gain,” the event brought together government officials, development partners, and civil society to promote women’s empowerment, leadership, and inclusive development.
At BRMI, International Women’s Day is more than a celebration—it is a reminder of the importance of women’s full participation in leadership, decision-making, policy development, and peacebuilding. We remain committed to advancing gender equality, protecting women’s rights, and creating opportunities for women and girls to thrive.
Together, we continue to champion a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.
